In honour of International Women’s Day, we are excited to launch an interview series celebrating ‘Women in Procurement’ around this year's theme #ChoosetoChallenge.
A challenged world is an alert world. We are all responsible for our own thoughts and actions - all day, every day.
We can choose to challenge gender bias and inequality. We can choose to celebrate women's achievements. Collectively, we can all help create a more inclusive world.
From challenge comes change, so let's all choose to challenge.
Not only do women play an incredibly important role in the Procurement space, but also as part of the overall tech industry. We want to hear from them, celebrate their stories and share what they have to say.
We’re excited to kick it off with Marea Getsios, Strategic Procurement Coordinator at the City of Canada Bay.
What female voices in procurement/tech do you admire and why?
I don’t have any one person I admire. I just admire assertive empathetic women in general who can lead, empower and bring other women up with them.
How important is your network?
It’s important to have a network built on trust and respect and know that you have each other’s best interests at heart. It doesn’t matter how large or small that network is. It’s about the quality!
What advice would you give a young woman entering the profession?
Be confident, be assertive and have fun. Procurement doesn’t need to be dry or boring. Use your relationship building skills to get the best out of the people around you.
Where do you go for useful resources and professional development?
I look for inspiration everywhere but usually, I keep an eye on the mistakes others in the sector make so I can learn from them and make sure I don’t do the same. I keep up to date with the latest technologies by talking to suppliers, and regional connections and share ideas with other professionals in the industry.
